Overview
I produced daily market notes, including morning, midday and closing day market commentary, which were sent to 60 long-term clients. I was also staffed on multiple company presentations, including for Healthcare, Retail, Mining and TMT clients when advising on equity situations. Lastly, I conducted shareholder analysis to suggest investor targeting for a UK-based Retail company.
Skills
Organisational skills, working under pressure and communication skills were the three most valuable skills I built. Attention to detail was an existing skill that I refined further.
Responsibilities
I was given the platform to contribute my thoughts to presentations, take charge of communications with senior leaders in the team as well as attend calls with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Support & Guidance
I was given an intensive 10-day training regime with an external provider. During my desk time, I was given lots of support through phone calls from other team members, who did not hesitate to answer any questions I had. I felt highly supported by the bank as well as my team.
Culture
The company culture was great. Everyone was approachable and friendly, from the first week to the very end. In my team, in particular, there was a strong dedication to the client work and to producing the highest quality output, but doing it in a collaborative manner, in which everyone's contribution was valued, was also highly important.
Your Impressions
I highly enjoyed the internship. I felt challenged as well as supported to achieve my full potential. The team members, in particular, made the internship great. The best part about the internship was seeing myself get better over time, as well as others in the team recognising this.
Yes
Thoroughly research the company. Make sure you prepare for all stages of the process, including thinking about which skills you have built over experiences that will allow you to be successful in your role as a Barclays Analyst. And my most important advice is to ask lots of good questions, it shows you are thinking to assessors as well as judging whether the role is a fit for you.
