Overview
I worked in the marketing team and I was involved in lots of different inter-departmental projects in which I was communicating with other teams about important jobs, as well as performing research and creating content to help communicate ideas amongst the company.
Skills
I definitely gained valuable insight into what a professional role at a large company feels like. My communication skills in a professional context were greatly developed as I was constantly having to communicate important information to lots of different colleagues. My data analysis skills were also used and developed in the sense of being able to apply my skills in a work environment.
Responsibilities
I felt as if I instantly was a member of the marketing team. Everyone invited me to work on tasks with them and helped me to genuinely contribute; for example, being able to give my input in calls and presenting data that we had collected. I felt throughout the placement that the work I was doing was in fact going towards a greater goal and was worthwhile.
Support & Guidance
I had a great team during my placement who were always an email or a call away. There were times when I did struggle to settle in to my role and get to grips with the systems being used to be able to work from home, but my colleagues always helped me to sort out any issues and never made me feel as if I was being slow.
Culture
Everyone is extremely welcoming and friendly; I think it would be very difficult to find another company where everyone is so willing to allow others to learn and flourish. For the duration of my placement, all I ever saw was encouragement among my team and teaching others.
Your Impressions
While the team was not the team I had hoped to get into for my placement, I still felt fulfilled and thoroughly enjoyed my time working. The constant involvement in tasks and encouragement from my team helped me to always feel like I was wanted and this helped me massively in terms of feeling satisfied and happy.
Yes
Make sure that you are aware of the different teams you can be placed into. I was not and I ended up being in a team where, while I still enjoyed the work I got and my team, I believe I could've had an even better time in a different team.
