Overview
My role was to assist my line manager in her projects. This included sitting in on meetings, creating powerpoints, doing research, and helping to develop ideas. I was also given training and projects which I was personally responsible for, which I completed over a number of weeks. Additionally, I was given the chance to network extensively, meeting a wide array of people, learning about the wide array of jobs done at Barclays.
Skills
The main skills I developed were: public speaking, networking, teamwork, professionalism, discipline, industry specific knowledge about my area of work.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given projects I was specifically responsible for. One of which was a presentation that I organised and moderated, which was attended virtually by several hindered people. I learned to be both a leader and supporting player thanks to the fact that I was given varying levels of responsibility in different projects.
Support & Guidance
I had consistent help and guidance from numerous people at Barclays. My Line Manager was incredibly helpful, and we would communicate nearly every workday. I was also always able to reach out to other members of my team with any questions. I was also allocated a buddy who had recently done the internship too, which was a big help.
Culture
Friendly, accepting, hardworking, fair.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I learned an enormous amount about my professional field of interest, and forged meaningful relationships in the process.
Yes
Don't diminish yourself to try to be what you expect they are looking for. You will be more confident and thus more successful if you present your authentic self in your application. This internship suits people who are outgoing, intellectually curious, and hard workers.
