The Role
My year at Microsoft has been incredible. I have learnt so much more than just how to do my day job - as an intern you get to participate in extra projects which increases the amount of skills you get from the experience.
At Microsoft, even as an intern, your opinion and work is valued. You are able to voice opinions and be taken seriously - I did not expect to have this much responsibility on my placement year, but I have been surprised in a pleasant way.
You are assigned a personal manager each who helps you ramp up, and work throughout the year as well as grow your skills set by helping you with your commitments.
I am busy nearly everyday, but that's because I choose to be. If I ever feel that I cannot cope with the workload, I would not hesitate to speak to my manager who I know would help me feel more comfortable with the amount of work I can personally cope with.
Even as an intern you are given big responsibilities and feel you are making a difference.
I believe I have learnt just as much, if not more, in my 1 year at Microsoft as I have done in the 2 years at my degree so far. From gaining Microsoft certified qualifications, to increasing my leadership skills, I now how much more experience to talk about in future interviews and use in university and work life.
The Company
Everyone is so happy - the complete opposite of the stressed people image I had in my head before starting my internship.
All the interns had so many opportunities organised for them, there was no reason for any of us to be sitting around and twiddling our thumbs!
If I put the effort in and showed commitment, I know my manager would back me up.

I am definitely applying for the graduate scheme; that says it all really.
The Culture
As there is overall a 103 of us interns this year, the social side was amazing, Also, I live with other interns, and more next door, and even more across the street! I am pretty close to my team as well and enjoying going out with them to socialise regularly.
Reading's rent is cheap in student areas, but taxi fairs aren't great. Apart from that, it's the same as everywhere else really!
Nightlife is ok in Reading, but you would find it pretty small if you're used to bigger cities.
Microsoft has SO many societies and clubs to get involved in, and it's a great way to meet more people!
