Overview
Ample opportunity to gain insights into different departments at the firm. Also received feedback on submitted work, completed a group presentation and various feedback sessions.
Skills
Developed my ability to work collaboratively through actively participating in a virtual group presentation. Also improved my legal knowledge, and refined skills such as drafting and writing, for example through drafting contractual clauses and submitted a memo of research.
Business Insight
The firm were very proactive in giving vacation scheme candidates an insight into the firm, it’s different initiatives and to its diversity networks. The roles available at the firm were also clearly outlined, and the responsibilities given to trainee solicitors at the firm were clearly stated so that vacation scheme candidates knew exactly what to expect should they be offered a Training Contract with the firm.
Culture
The culture was open and supportive. My trainer was very helpful and devoted time to marking my work and giving me feedback on how to improve. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, and always willing to give their time to answer any questions about the firm.
Your Impressions
The insight was invaluable and thoroughly enjoyable. I learned a lot about the firm during the week and gained an insight into many different departments such as Corporate and IP.
Yes
Make sure you understand how Allen & Overy differentiates itself from other law firms. The firm has a strong reputation for many different types of legal work, but the one thing I think differentiates the firm from its competitors is the open and supportive culture which applies from trainee to partner level.
