Overview
My main responsibilities were within the collateral risk management team within markets, giving me a broad exposure to the importance of who the bank choose to lend to and how much. Tasks included: analysing documents submitted by banks seeking funds, writing a report on the trends in consumer and corporate loans, preparing for and engaging in site visits with banks.
Skills
My team gave me several opportunities to present in front of senior leadership and the team, which was great as it was something I was looking to develop upon, alongside my communication skills.
Responsibilities
I felt I was given an incredible amount of responsibility during my internship. This was something I was looking for coming into the internship and having discussed it with my manager we were able to agree upon what was/wasn't achievable in the 8 weeks I had there. Overall, the bank is great for this and I have come away learning a lot because of it.
Support & Guidance
The internship started off with several days of induction to get interns up to speed with the bank's way of working, which was really useful! Desk specific training was a mixture of self driven and workshops with my manager and team, who were incredibly helpful and understanding.
Culture
Personally, I found this harder to gauge as I spent the time WFH and being in the office. Overall, everyone I met in person and virtually, is incredibly friendly, helpful and is always happy to chat! Often, teams and interns go out for drinks on a Thursday which was great to get involved in having been in several lockdowns over the past 18 months.
Your Impressions
Overall, it was an incredible experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Yes
Take the time to read around on the website. In my experience, those who succeed in the process are genuinely passionate about the bank's work and aren't trying to flex their knowledge too much. Just be yourself!
