Overview
Undertook research surrounding a given cutting-edge topic within the Image Processing department. I was given a lot of free-reign regarding the direction I wanted to take the research but was given guidance when I needed it. This role involved lots of work in an office environment and attending meetings run by colleagues.
Skills
Developed my interpersonal and Python skills, and especially learned a lot about emerging technologies in this sector.
Responsibilities
I was allowed a lot of freedom when it came to the methods I would use to meet a specific problem, especially as this problem was new to the people already working there as well. Despite being of course expected to present my findings, the methodology I used was often my own decision and my supervisors helped optimise whatever decisions I made.
Support & Guidance
I had weekly meetings with my line manager to check on my progress and could ask questions whenever I needed to.
Culture
There was plenty of opportunity to socialise with my colleagues during lunch hours and after work. During my time I participated in extra-curricular office activities, e.g. sweepstakes. The company itself is also heavily involved in charity efforts.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed my placement and value the time and work I spent at the company.
Yes
Ensure you know the company's core values very well as well as show an appreciation for the entire production process (not just the department you are applying for). Should you be successful, be willing to ask lots of questions whenever you get stuck.
