Overview
Learned about the role of actuaries at insurance companies and how consulting services fit into the picture. Attended training on the above concepts and Willis Towers Watson software as well as networking sessions with a variety of team members. Conducted data analysis and modelling to support projects for the Insurance Consulting and Technology team.
Skills
Developed skills in Excel and learned Power BI. Also developed soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and networking through interactions with the wider team on projects, as well as presentation skills in the end-of-internship presentation.
Responsibilities
Yes - I worked on real projects throughout the internship. I also had great opportunities to discuss how they impact clients with the team.
Support & Guidance
Excellent support. I had regular meetings with my buddy and line manager, both of whom were extremely proactive in offering support for the internship. I also received fantastic help from the project teams and felt very comfortable asking for guidance or feedback, which I always received in a friendly and helpful manner.
Culture
Very friendly and helpful atmosphere, and proactive culture. People were always happy to make time in their schedules to answer questions which was very much appreciated.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed the internship - it was a great opportunity to learn about the insurance industry and how actuaries shape it.
Yes
Prepare your application carefully. Practice online assessments before completing them. For maths-related questions in the interview, talk through your thought process whilst answering the question.
