Overview
The internship was incredibly useful, informative and insightful. I gained an invaluable insight into life working for Clifford Chance, the types of deals I could expect to be a part of, and the culture and values of the firm as a whole. We received various talks from employees in a multitude of practice areas, each who were passionate about their job.
Skills
This scheme increased my self-confidence as I had to complete group work with a number of other interns and sometimes speak in front of the whole cohort on the zoom call. The presentation tasks allowed me to articulate my thoughts concisely. The reflection tasks were invaluable in making me aware of my strengths and weaknesses.
Business Insight
The whole experience reaffirmed my desire to work for a firm such as Clifford Chance. The possibilities for progression are amazing. Learning about the different practice areas and previous deals and transactions was really interesting and gave me an insight into sectors of commercial law that I may consider pursuing a career in.
Culture
It’s truly heartwarming to see how passionate the employees are about the work they do and the difference they make in their clients’ lives. The entire experience, from the first interview to the actual scheme, demonstrated how approachable and humble each of the employees are, something you may not normally expect from a hugely successful commercial law firm!
Your Impressions
I truly enjoyed the virtual experience, I don’t think it could’ve been any better. The fact that Clifford Chance were able to pull off a virtual SPARK scheme for the first time during such unprecedented and uncertain times due to COVID, just shows how innovative the firm is.
Yes
Be yourself in the application. I spent an entire night rewriting my application because I didn’t believe it was personal enough, and luckily I was successful in securing a place on SPARK. I would also advise applicants to never doubt themselves as this is something I did tremendously. Always remember that everyone else is in the same boat.
