    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Initially, I was involved in a lot of learning and research that Think Pacific created/provided to allow me to learn about Fiji's culture. There were also virtual networking meetings that I went to, and workshops to learn more about their culture. From there I chose a project, specifically choosing international development. I created a website for a women-led business that creates reusable sanitary products. I then produced a recording to present my project.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • My mentor helped me in learning how to virtually network and the creation of my LinkedIn account. In turn I have found even more opportunities through LinkedIn. I further developed my creative and technological skills in producing an aesthetically pleasing and easy to use website. Most of the work is individually-based (not group work), which I preferred due to my self-motivation and work style. Therefore, it maintained my daily work schedule in the summer holidays.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • You were definitely provided with a lot of responsibility because you were working on your own to create a project that is actually making a difference to people who are lacking in time and money. This is really exciting but can be daunting, hence the mentor you are assigned, who are incredibly helpful.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty, you use an app called Slack and are able to message them at any point. My mentor was quick with replies. You are provided a google calender which shows your mentor office times, but also other mentor office times which you can join.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • When you do join in on virtual networking and the workshops, everyone is very friendly. If you have a question to do with your project and want to talk to someone, there are specific text channels in slack and people are generally very responsive and willing to talk and help. Everyone is also very eager to connect on LinkedIn, including the staff.
