Overview
I was in charge of a lot of the design elements of projects. Making PowerPoints and PDFs look nice, creating logos, infographics and adverts, usually to draw customers to particular websites. I helped keep websites up to date, would make new pages when required. I would also manage a weekly catch up meeting, and run a weekly webinar, managing the branding and design, admin, such as attendee list and ensuring we had everything in order every week and general zoom setup.
Skills
Yes, I was a beginner in adobe illustrator, photoshop and premier pro, now I am very confident in all these programs, I also became very familiar with zoom (my placement was during covid) I learnt a lot about design, how to create adverts that actually work, and was able to create a set of brand guidelines from scratch. Also Deloitte offer loads of training opportunities some compulsory, some optional, for example I did a couple courses in inclusion/ accessibility design which were very valuable
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility. I would be in charge of running a meeting which ensured everyone was ready for a weekly webinar we ran. I had full responsibility of a lot of the design tasks sent my way. I had a lot fo responsibility to manage work load and meet deadlines.
Support & Guidance
I received a good amount of support and guidance during my placement. All my immediate colleagues were very supportive during my placement, they all made sure I knew what I was doing, and I was happy with my tasks and work load. I also completed lots of compliance training, which ensured I knew what do to in many different situations. I would speak to my colleagues daily (95% of my placement was online) to make sure I was on tack with all my tasks and my workload was manageable.
Culture
Deloitte is a very large company with a lot of employees, this meant there were endless people to meet. As the majority of my placement was during covid I only met my colleagues in real life less than 10 times. However, there were endless (virtual) social activities to get involved with. from terrarium building to truffle making, the culture seemed very positive and I feel everyone working at Deloitte were both very friendly and happy to be there.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed my placement. I learnt so much especially skills you can't necessarily pick up from university. I got first had experience in a job I thoroughly enjoyed. I was definitely pushed to create my best work and experienced the highs and lows of any job, but still managed to enjoy the experience as a whole. Despite only visiting the offices a few times, I loved working there and I hope to return soon.
Yes
Personally, as I didn't go through the traditional application process, I was working at a different company which got acquired my Deloitte, I can't comment on the application process. But to be an employee at Deloitte you definitely have to be enthusiastic and prepared for some hard work, always willing to learn and improve yourself, but also ready to enjoy the experience and make the most out of your time being there. Good luck!
