Overview
Summer Vacation Student in the Audit & Assurance service line. On a day-to-day basis, I got on-hand experience by working on audits for clients, learning about different parts of the audit process and performing most of the testing independently. I worked in various teams across the internship which made the experience really enjoyable and enabled me to expand my network.
Skills
I learnt to be more outgoing as working in a professional environment for the first time really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I learnt valuable team-working skills as well as how to be a dependable colleague and to take accountability for my own workload. I improved my Excel skills by using the application daily, in ways I hadn't needed to before.
Responsibilities
From the first day of my internship I was entrusted with independently completing parts of the audit for a client. As the weeks went on and I had been taught more and more, I was given new and bigger parts of the audit to complete. Overall, I would say I was given a lot of responsibility over the internship which was a very exciting prospect for me.
Support & Guidance
I was taught a lot about audit and how to complete a variety of parts of the audit. I could easily contact my colleagues if I was unsure about anything and everyone was very happy to help. There was a very good balance of being guided through things and being left to my own devices.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere were faultless. My internship was virtual, so most of the time I only met people online. Even so, everyone I came into contact with was extremely friendly and helpful. The events held outside of work hours were a nice inclusion to the scheme too. I was able to visit the office once over my internship and the office and atmosphere were even better than I expected.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I completed other internships at rival firms and Deloitte's stood out to me by far.
