Overview
Specialising in Non-Financial Risk Advisory (Retail Conduct & Innovation). -Completed outcome testing for clients, drawing on details of customer journey to assess fairness of outcomes -Presented a project for the Risk Innovation team, researching competition and alternatives to their software -Supported preparation for a Deloitte peer group event, calculating budget allocations and flagging anomalies
Skills
-Learned about how to create a fair process for financial advice for vulnerable customers, and developed a capacity to understand how to assess an organisation regarding this and advise on these processes -Grew my confidence in presentation skills and communicating clearly my research to my colleagues -Utilised and developed my Excel skills to create the report on budget allocations, which would be used in turn to ensure the smooth running of events
Responsibilities
I was taken through a range of tasks that would have an impact on specific ongoing projects, including proofreading the phrasing of assessment reports and presenting market research to understand how a specific software is being developed to managers who were interested to hear more about it.
Support & Guidance
A lot - I had a buddy who was ready to answer any questions I had (which was helped by the fact he was a year into his work with Deloitte, meaning he had recent experience I could learn from). My line manager and team within Retail Conduct were also fantastic alongside my buddy, and I felt no question I asked would be looked down upon and they were very invested in my career development.
Culture
I enjoyed the variety of tasks and amount of responsibility that was trusted to everyone across the company - everyone was friendly to one another and sought to help their colleagues to develop (e.g. in the challenge of the project that they were being trusted with) as well as developing themselves.
Your Impressions
I loved it! I have taken an offer from Deloitte to work in my internship area as a consultant after university, and I am looking forward to further being challenged and learning more at the company.
Yes
If you’re at university or applying out of school, try and get involved in as many societies or activities as possible - it’s amazing after you realise it doesn’t matter what degree you do, but instead an important aspect is what skills you’ve developed from specific extracurricular activities.
