Overview
Working in a team on a client audit, performing a variety of substantive testing on areas of the profit and loss account and balance sheet. Tests performed on Excel included payroll, revenue, COS, accounts payable, accounts receivable and more. Calls with the team and client throughout the day if working from home to ensure the audit process was smooth.
Skills
Massively developed skills such as communication, working within a team, time management, Excel, prioritisation of tasks, socialising, confidence in new or unfamiliar situations, as well as accounting and industry specific knowledge.
Responsibilities
Yes, I would usually be allocated a section or multiple sections of the profit and loss account or balance sheet for the duration of the audit, these were my sections and I had full responsibility for these areas. If I had any questions, managers would always answer questions to further my learning and development. The help was there if needed but I took full accountability for my work.
Support & Guidance
Lots, we had an early learning coach with regular check ins to ensure we were settling in and happy. We also had a tutor from the training provider for exam support, as well as a performance evaluation lead with regular check ins for progress and feedback.
Culture
The culture was a positive one. As busy as people might be, they never made you feel like you were a burden. People were always chatty and more than happy to help and get to know you personally, which contributed to my enjoyment of the placement - people had a real interest in me and my progress.
Your Impressions
Although the majority of my placement was done from home due to Covid, I always had the help and equipment I needed and managed to network with colleagues and make friends, the work was challenging but I’m excited to come back as a graduate and continue learning as I feel audit is the place for me.
Yes
