Summer Vacation Scheme Review

The Deloitte Summer Vacation Scheme was extremely well planned or organised. For the first day of the scheme, we were given an online orientation session with HR where we were briefed on Deloitte and its service lines. Throughout the scheme, we were also given ample opportunity and time to get to know other SVS interns. Overall, it was an awesome experience where I not only learned loads from my service line but also, developed both personally and professionally.

During the course of the Summer Vacation Scheme, we were given a learning log where we could jot down what we would want to get out of the scheme, and we had regular meetings with our Line Manager on where we were in terms of our learning and development. The learning curve was steep initially but there was plenty of help available to the Summer Vacation Scheme interns. I managed to develop my communication, team-working and leadership skills.

Although I had a good grasp of the different service lines and potential roles that Deloitte offers prior to joining, it was an entirely different experience talking to Deloitte employees from different service lines and getting to know about their service lines from them through virtual coffee chats or in-person meet ups. Overall, looking back, the Summer Vacation Scheme at Deloitte LLP UK was an amazing experience that I would not trade for anything else.

Deloitte definitely has the best culture amongst the Big 4--and this is also the reason I chose to join Deloitte over the other Big 4s for my Summer Vacation Scheme. Whenever I was stuck with a question, my Line Manager, buddy, and engagement team were all very friendly and offered to teach me. During the Summer Vacation Scheme, we also had the opportunity to network with employees from other service lines within Deloitte, and they were all very open and approachable.

I definitely very much enjoyed the insight into Deloitte. Not only were we given a lot of help and support during the Summer Vacation Scheme, we were also given plenty of opportunities to enjoy ourselves and take part in networking sessions to get to know other Deloitte employees in our own service line as well as in other service lines; and get to know other Summer Vacation Scheme interns. Overall, it was an amazing experience.

Some tips or advice I would give to others applying to Deloitte is to apply early. Applying early would mean that you are showing interest in Deloitte and I think that my early application also played a part in me being able to successfully secure a role as a Summer Vacation Scheme (SVS) intern at Deloitte. Other tips or advice would include knowing the culture of the firm and practicing for your interview in advance.
