Responsibilities
Yes, given meaningful research tasks that were going to help with ongoing projects and filled out onboarding forms for clients. Created presentations that were going to be presented to clients. Took minutes for client calls. Lots of independence with tasks but also regular check-in and buddy system to help.
Support & Guidance
Regular calls with line managers to discuss work that we would be doing/how we were getting on. Goals set by line managers which included specific tasks to carry out and skills to develop. Introductions to the wider team and calls with team members to discuss their experiences at Deloitte. Buddy system and check-in with buddy daily who would answer any questions and help with work if needed. Shadowing of a director who would give us work to do and check-in with how we were finding things. Sub-team meetings also. Also intern support from organisers and socials for interns to meet each other.
Culture
The culture was very inclusive, there was a strong focus on mental health and their were mindfulness workshops and encouragement to take breaks when needed. There were weekly socials with other interns and then social activities within service lines. Within the company there were groups set up such as the LGBT+ group.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, I was given lots of opportunities to learn and chance to carry out meaningful work whilst being included and supported by the team. The company culture was welcoming and seemed like the company cared about employees with the strong focus on wellbeing. It exceeded my expectations, the team made sure that interns experienced as many different aspects as the day-to-day role as possible and made sure that we felt like part of the team. I would go back.
Yes
There is no expectation for you to have any technical knowledge just be aware of current events. It is mostly important in the interview process to show enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Whilst doing the internship it's helpful to write down everything that you've done each day (they gave us a log) so that you can refer to tasks you completed/skills you learnt in the final interview at the end. Whilst completed the internship its also important to ask lots of questions (no-one will mind) and if you don't have much to do email and ask for more work.
