Overview
I helped with various tasks within the structures team. I was able to work on projects that allowed me to get an insight into the type of work I would be completing as a graduate. There was a variety of tasks throughout the internship that I worked on. My manager would assign me a task and I would check in with him if I needed any help.
Skills
New skills I learned: - Using new software like Tekla Tedds - Using templify to enhance my presentation on reports - I learnt a lot about what resources to use and the variety of recourses available online Skills I was able to develop: - enhanced my communication skills - enhanced my problem-solving skills - presentation skills were enhanced - my technical knowledge was developed
Responsibilities
Yes, I was responsible for creating a report for a specific signal in wales. This was then sent to the client for checking. This responsibility allowed me to understand the importance of working to a high standard and not allowing room for any mistakes. Through speaking to my manager, I was provided with lots of guidance and help to ensure the report was done well. Even with this responsibility, I was never left to feel worried as guidance and reassurance were always available and provided.
Support & Guidance
I was always able to speak to my manager or anyone within the team if I needed any help. My manager always caught up with me to ensure I was okay and getting on with the task well. I was sent and guided to a huge selection of resources. My buddy was also very welcoming and reassuring and answered any questions I may have had throughout my time there. I felt very supported.
Culture
The culture with the company and specifically the team was very positive. Everyone was very welcoming and encouraging. The structures team really did feel like a team and the regular catch-up calls on Mondays ensured everyone was on track and aware of each other's schedule. The general atmosphere was very lovely and I enjoyed getting to know my colleagues.
Your Impressions
I had a really great and positive time at my internship. I learnt lots, worked on lots of exciting/important projects, met lots of inspiring and knowledgeable people and generally gained lots from this experience. I was able to truly understand what it will be like to work as a graduate and understand the day to day life of an engineer which is the reason I had applied to the internship. I really enjoyed my internship.
