    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Over a 2-day period, I got to learn about the day-to-day jobs of many roles within RBC - both for IBD and GM. The programme was more of an insight into both aspects to understand what a job at a top tier Investment Bank would entail. We also got to do networking and asked questions to current employees, and played games.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have definitely developed my networking skills, while gaining a much stronger understanding of what different divisions within RBC entail (work-wise). I specifically was able to learn about different types of traders, and how different products are traded through the Women in Trading Programme.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of opportunity to ask questions to senior employees within RBC, to better improve my knowledge of the industry. As Spring Weeks are insight events, I wasn't expected to have much work responsibility, other than being punctual, continuously liaising with my mentors, asking questions, and communicating with peers.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received endless support and guidance during my Spring Insight event as well as the Women in Trading event, as I was allocated 2 mentors: a senior mentor, and an Analyst, who I could email and have video chats with, regarding any industry-related questions, interview prep, or anything else. I got a lot of support with the application process from Hannah and Greg also, who always reached out with new opportunities and events.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture is very flat - everyone, no matter how high up they are, are willing to help you - no matter how big or small an issue is. Everyone is extremely friendly and want to see you do well. The culture is very diverse, friendly and approachable.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I LOVED my internship. Before doing my Spring Week at RBC, I was set on IBD - but after RBC's spring week, I fell in love with global markets and trading. This was further consolidated when I was given the opportunity to participate in RBCs Women in Trading Programme, where I was able to explore my passion for trading further, and realised this is what I want to do as a career.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Royal Bank of Canada
  • Make the most of your network - ask as many questions as you can and try to take up every opportunity that comes your way. Go into it with an open mind, and absorb as much knowledge as you can with a sponge. Try to form your own opinion on certain things, and stay on top of the news. The culture is amazing here, so really make the most of this and network!
