Overview
Day-to-day work involved working in various audit teams to carry out audit testing across a variety of audit areas including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, equity, revenue and costs. The job required regular interaction with client contacts to discuss audit evidence required and the day-to-day operations of the client business.
Skills
Completed two of the total fifteen ACA accounting exams in order to become a qualified accountant. Deloitte has a comprehensive internal training schedule that provides instruction for the audit work that you work on throughout the year. Developed teamworking skills and communication skills working closely with audit teams every day and regular client calls.
Responsibilities
Challenging work was given to me during the placement but plenty of training and support was provided to enable me to rise to this work. I was encouraged to take the lead in client calls and sole responsibility for important areas of the audit work.
Support & Guidance
Plenty of support and guidance was provided during the placement from across the team from Managers, Assistant Managers to Senior Associates. Field Seniors held all day calls to allow questions and help to be given in real time without the need to schedule meetings and one-on-one help was provided.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere was one of professionalism and importance given to the nature of the work done. The atmosphere was very sociable with emphasis placed upon people getting involved in social activities and also joining groups dedicated to issues such as school outreach volunteering.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed the placement - it was a challenging experience but one in which I acquired many new skills and opportunities to do new tasks and confront new problems to solve and overcome. I was given the opportunity to practice communication skills and the freedom to organise myself and take ownership over my work schedule.
