Overview
For my role, I had 2 major projects that I worked on. One was for the Uk market, and the other for the Irish market. Most of my time was spent working on these projects. Any free time I had was either used on improving myself through courses or helping with any other tasks outside my projects that I could.
Skills
An important new skill I learnt was Excel. It is very important for anyone looking to enter the finance world and isn't really taught at school so I was very grateful to learn more about excel while working.
Responsibilities
I was given a sufficient amount of responsibility during the internship. As an intern, I knew very little about the payments industry but was given proper training at the start which allowed me to go about my tasks competently.
Support & Guidance
As I mentioned earlier there was a good amount of training to improve my understanding. I also received great guidance from not just my manager, but also other members of the team that I interacted with.
Culture
Very different from what I expected. Visa is a big company, and I expected an overly serious, extremely corporate environment. Upon joining the company I was pleasantly shocked. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, from top to bottom, and the company does a lot to ensure employee mental health is always good.
Your Impressions
It was a very a good few months working at Visa. I enjoyed the work and interacting with fellow interns and colleagues both during and after work.
Yes
Be prepared to learn a lot of information about payments you may not have known before. Make sure to make tangible connections with people who work there, even if you do not intend to return for a graduate role. Use the company services to learn as many skills as you can, while also fulfilling your roles during the internship.
