Overview
It was overall a wonderful experience. From the very start, you are treated as an employee and are given essential tasks within the allocated project. You are shadowing your manager and other team members but you are also given independence. You are encouraged to be curious and ask lots of questions about anything and can contribute to the project and within client meetings if you want and if appropriate. You are also able to explore your career ambitions and learn more about the company
Skills
I have learnt to use so many different software - Miro, Jira, Airtable, Trello. These are useful software for RAID based projects which builds upon continuous feedback from stakeholders on the project. This helped developed my soft skills of listening carefully and critically analysing feedback given or thoughts from the stakeholders. You will also learn how to filter feedback into different themes and be able to synthesise what is needed to be done. With most jobs, you also will build on your relational skills
Business Insight
Deloitte is very transparent about their areas of growth and what they offer. It’s great that a big cooperation is honest about what the need to grow in as a company and how they can continue to build on their strengths. During our induction, we were already told about all the roles offered within the divisions and they had arranged for people from all the departments on multiple days to talk to us so we got a lot of exposure on the company and it’s roles
Culture
The really emphasise a work life balance. I think this is what makes Deloitte stand out is because they genuinely have great colleagues and they care about their employees. Everyone has a mindset to invest in each other so it doesn’t feel like a race but a marathon where everyone wants to keep aiming for their goals. The internship was online so it was hard to get the complete picture but overall I would say the atmosphere is wonderful
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. There were limitations to it being online but even for a virtual internship, it was the best it gets. The team went above and beyond and arranged events for it to feel like an in person internship. There was a lot of interaction and socials so it felt like we were in person at times. The only thing that could be better would be the length of the scheme as the time really passes very quickly
Yes
The biggest tip would be to familiarise yourself with the company and then personalise it to you. Be honest with yourself and ask yourself why you would want to work here. Managers who do interviews really appreciate it when you are yourself as they’ve heard the typical answers all the time. With the tests, if it is timed, be mindful and keep track of it yourself. Don’t rely on your interviewer to tell you when to stop. Be open with feedback too
