Overview
It was a 2-day training programme. On the first day we had financial Markets training, talks about Global Markets (Electronic trading, mining research, flow rates trading) and finished with a trading game. On the second day we learned about investment banking and other parts of the business through talks and participated in our own group case study, followed by a panel discussion.
Skills
I developed my networking skills through the panel and my teamwork skills through group projects.
Business Insight
We were given overviews of each speaker’s role and had the chance to ask them questions, so I learned a lot about what people’s day-to-day jobs entailed and how they got there.
Culture
The culture at RBC seems quite different to other banks, in the way that it is more friendly and cooperative and less cutthroat competitive.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the programme all together. My favourite parted were some of the talks the Electronic Trading talk and learned a lot from that. The syndicated finance talk was very detailed and explained the whole process and the market. However, I think the programme could benefit from having more interactive opportunities and more technical deep-dives. I felt there was some repetition in what speakers were saying in explaining what Investment Banking is etc.
