Overview
5 days. Performed research tasks for a combination of commercial and pro bono work. Inputting and reviewing data. Met and worked closely with associates and trainees.
Skills
Yes. Good for time management. Good for practical writing experience. Good for getting used to working in a working environment.
Business Insight
It was very helpful to be given a sense of how the firm worked, how people felt about the place they worked, and how they spent their days. Obviously only being there for a week, I only had the chance to experience one seat, and so don't have as much exposure to other areas meaning it is a necessarily limited insight.
Culture
People seemed to enjoy themselves and have the time to go for lunch. They seemed to like one another and there was a good relationship between different levels of seniority (although also a fair few people didn't know one anohter, but I think that's Covid-related).
Your Impressions
High.
Yes
Look at what the firm itself does, rather than general law firms. Think about working closely with your trainee as well, rather than spending time trying to impress partners/associates.
