Overview
We started with introductory calls, allowing us to talk to the HR team and our peers in the programme. Then started with a talk explaining the basis of the industry and any jargons used. Following that we had talks/presentations from ranges of senior and junior professionals, giving opportunities to ask many questions and gain insightful information. We also had opportunities to work in teams to solve situational games relating to different desks roles on a day-to-day basis.
Skills
I have learnt to even further how to work in a team and how to ask concise and clear questions. But most importantly I have been able to develop the skills to be able to take in and note relevant information very quickly.
Business Insight
It was extremely interesting as the RBC Spring Insight Programme gave us the opportunity to see a large range of roles on the majority of desks from both Global Markets and Investment Banking and giving us time to see these roles from both junior and senior professionals aspects. We also had opportunities after the programme to reach out and talk further to professionals if we were interested in their role and wanted to ask more questions.
Culture
The culture at RBC is a very inclusive and friendly environment. senior leaders were extremely willing to give their time to talk and help people on the programme. The employees at RBC believe in winning as one and working as teams. Their inclusivity of women and seeing women’s careers progress, is a key principle for RBC and one that was made very clear through this programme from all employees.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the programme and found it extremely insightful, helping me decided that the banking industry was for me and which areas in the bank I would be interested in. I found the programme very engaging and well structured, allowing us to get the most out of the insight days.
Yes
Make sure you have researched RBC and their values to see how important culture is at the company. Look at recent news events that may effect RBC Capital Markets and have an idea as to how this would affect the company. I would also make sure you are extremely interested and curious, always wanting to know more. Do not worry if you don’t know everything!
