Overview
Engineering role looking into software/hardware solutions for existing and new rolling stock. Developing solutions for various projects from technical to non technical. In addition, providing support to the internal team involved into the innovation of processes and tools within the business.
Skills
Yes, a lot, few of them are. Public speaking, business communication, presentation skills, engineering principles and industrial standards, electronics, low level software development, cloud software development, writing technical documentation, writing of technical instructions, understanding of technical legislation and many more. The best knowledge I got is maybe into the transportation industry.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was involved in quite a few projects where I was given the opportunity to be responsible for certain tasks within a massive project. In addition, Siemens has given me the opportunity to develop an idea and potentially get to develop it with existing resources. E.g innovative ideas can get funding to be developed and you can get the full responsibility for the development.
Support & Guidance
Quite a lot, from my start I have been having a mentor with who I've been discussing my development on monthly basis. My line manager is also deeply involved in how my development is going as well as the improvements officer who looks into my future placements and objectives.
Culture
Innovative and very friendly to new people in the business. There are a lot of engineers from the older generation but everyone is extremely friendly and happy to help. People are very very knowledgeable and supportive to new employees.
Your Impressions
Very much, I think there is a nice atmosphere for young people and plenty of support for those who are willing to learn. I enjoy working with the people in the business and I'm planning to remain in it.
Yes
It's a nice place for people who want a career in the rail industry. There are unlimited numbers of resources which you can use to learn and a lot of experienced people to speak to. The mobility sector is relatively new to the digital technologies but there is a lot of work into this, if you're willing to join Siemens on this journey and be the change, this is the place for you.
