Overview
Day-to-day activities included talks from the firm's training principal, CSR team, early careers and current trainees, as well as talks about the firm's growth and strategy. In addition to this, I undertook work in the department I was placed in, and the department of my trainee buddy. I was also able to attend a preliminary employment tribunal hearing. Also, I set up calls with a range of people from across the firm and was able to network across departments.
Skills
I have learnt about personal branding and how to adapt this in working and non-working environments. I have also improved my research skills, through producing summary research tasks as well as more extensive, investigatory research tasks. I have gained an invaluable insight into the work that the firm does, whilst further developing my time management skills, dividing my time between networking, work tasks, socials and events.
Business Insight
The firm provided an extensive overview of the training contract and what it will encompass.
Culture
The company culture was very strong, everyone I interacted with ranging from secretaries to partner-level was extremely helpful and approachable. I also found that everyone was very sociable, and took a genuine interest in me, going out of their way to help me to get the most out of the experience.
Your Impressions
I got fantastic exposure to the work that the firm does. The team that I was allocated to sit with were extremely welcoming and open, a culture that is firm-wide. The vacation scheme exceeded my expectations, especially with respect to the work I was able to be part of and I would definitely like to work here in the future.
Yes
I would advise anyone applying to the firm to do their research and apply it throughout the application process. The firm has a very clear identity (who it is and what it does), and you should be knowledgeable about this. In terms of the assessment process, make sure that you are well-versed in current affairs and have strong commercial awareness. I would also advise that you prepare for the unexpected, you never know what will come up!
