Overview
My days consisted of presentations informing me about the different departments within the company, followed by informative Q&A session with the speakers (whom were employees within the company). I would later shadow my mentor and his team by participating on the tasks given whilst also being able to ask questions throughout the day.
Skills
This insight week enabled me to further develop my teamwork skills and interpersonal skills, as I was thrown into a new environment and was required to collaborate ideas and research with the team. In doing so, I was able to work on my research and analysis skills, learning how to make them concise, as well as learning how to present my findings in a professional and coherent manner.
Business Insight
It was a great experience, in the sense that I was able to fully grasp an idea of what the industry entails. From observing the department I was in, and hearing about the other divisions it was a well-rounded experience. I particularly enjoyed the networking breakfast as I was able to have free flowing conversations with a variety of people, including directors, who reflected on and gave advice on how they grew within the company.
Culture
As a whole, what can be said of the company is that it has a very friendly community spirit - a family almost! Despite being an insight student, I felt like I was already a member of the team. The atmosphere was very welcoming and I was constantly supported yet also given the trust to work on tasks alone (which was definitely a confidence boost). The company culture is made by hard-workers which inspire you to be the same.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed this insight week, it exceeded my expectations in more ways than one. For example, I didn't expect to be actively part of the tasks given to my team. I am able to say I have hands-on experience within the industry as I was working on real life tasks. At times these tasks were done individually yet still are a big part of the overall project which is exciting.
Yes
I was inspired to apply to Savills because of what can be seen, shown, and heard about the community it has. On arrival, I could certainly tell the words of praise were correct. To someone applying to Savills, I would advice one to reflect on how your character can add to the great work culture already transmitted here. This can be done best through your cover letter - which should be tailor to Savills specifically!
