Overview
We had an overview of various divisions, hearing from the people who worked in them and getting Q&A at the end of each session.
Skills
Got to network by independently organising calls with employees and learnt more about Investment banking
Business Insight
It was insightful to some degree, but was delivered in a way that wasn't so engaging. Especially since it was online, focusing on a screen and hearing people speak for hours, with minimal interaction with you is quite hard. But the wealth management division, IBD with Friso, Case Study presentation (with 2 Italian guys) and the Equity Research insight (with [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]), and Technology with [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] are ones I recall did really engage me and I found them really insightful and interesting.
Culture
The culture seemed a bit cold? The HR told us not to directly contact the employees, but to channel our questions through the HR email. I thought this didn't make me feel too welcome/a part of the organisation. For every other spring week I was on, we were encouraged to contact the employees, and they were more than happy for us to get in touch with them via LinkedIn.
Your Impressions
It was alright, but I really didn't get to know the other interns much because there were minimal breakout room interaction and things were quite stiff? I feel like the internship structure viewed the interns as a job, as opposed to people they could potentially be working with in a matter of years... Not to say they weren't nice, many of the workers were superrrr nice and lovely and I made an effort to contact the other interns on social media and try and force interaction that way, but it was pretty difficult when you don't really get a chance to speak with every other intern.
Yes
Just come in prepared, and ready to learn. Make the most of it and try to organise calls with people you meet during the week to learn more about their job - even if you're advised to not contact the employees directly.
