Overview
Initially we spent some time training and learning about Nomura. This was followed with the opportunity to sit on a desk within global markets and learn what that desk does. There was also the opportunity to reach out and speak to employees on other desks to learn more about what they do.
Skills
I’ve developed several of my existing skills. The main skill I’ve developed is my ability to communicate effectively, especially when talking to someone I’ve not met before. I’ve also developed my teamwork skills as there was a real sense of cohesion with the other girls on the programme and we worked together on several occasions.
Business Insight
It was really interesting! It was an incredible opportunity to hear not only someone talk about the role they do, but to also see it in action, and I’ve learnt so much more from this then if I hadn’t have had the opportunity to go onto the trading floor. It’s also helped me explore which area I’m most interested in and eager to learn more about.
Culture
The company culture was incredible. Everybody was so friendly; not once did I reach out to someone for a coffee chat and they ignore my message. There was also a general atmosphere of entrepreneurship. I feel that if you have an idea at Nomura you’re given the opportunity to explain it to someone more senior and explore your ideas.
Your Impressions
I loved the insight! Amazing opportunities to meet people and meet other girls who are like-minded. I’ve come away from these two weeks with a wealth of knowledge and a love for Nomura, as well as a group of new friends.
Yes
I would give the advice of trying to reach out to speak to someone who works at Nomura before applying. I think this is the best way to really get an insight into the culture at Nomura and what differentiates Nomura from the other banks.
