Overview
I was asked to attend all classes, make notes, rotate with different desks on the trading floor, network with my peers as well as make connections with people at the company. At the end of the week I was asked to pitch a stock to a potential client in front of my class as well as staff within the firm and take Q/A's accordingly.
Skills
I can say I have learnt a lot more about myself in terms of what I'm capable of. I have learnt far more about public speaking and developed my existing skills in handling pressure during tense moments.
Business Insight
I learnt that no matter what there is a place in the department which fits you. Initially I thought the trading floor was just a lot of people doing the same thing, I was impressed to know that there are many departments; Credit, Commodities, FX etc. And so I feel more optimistic about the future now knowing that there are so many more opportunities than I previously thought were available before the Spring Week.
Culture
Very very informative. I thought that initially people would not want to speak with interns while busy at their desks during a work day. I was pleasantly surprised to see that people in fact looked forward to speaking with us and genuinely tried to reach out to us more often than not just to help us learn more and perform better on the week. The people at the firm were a 10/10.
Your Impressions
To the greatest extent and more. It did what it was intended to do in terms of being insightful into the work done at the company, however I felt so many further benefits from taking part in the program. Making friends during the week, connections at the company etc. And most importantly just having fun. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I really recommend would it to others.
Yes
Be curious, optimistic, positive and most importantly be open. Goldman care far more about the person rather than the grades/uni etc. compared to other firms. So as long as you can display from your experience that you're someone who has the curiosity, determination and drive etc needed to be at the company, you've got a good chance.
