    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • 1: Welcome sessions with the engineers and markets guys. IBD then had accounting training. 2: Finished up accounting training. Had lunch with our analyst buddies. Then started the M&A case study with our groups. 3: Presented M&A case study and had networking lunch. Were given the second case study about financing and started with that. 4: Presented case study, and finished up with a fun event for the entire spring cohort. There were other sessions but those were mostly senior people coming in and telling us about what they do, their division, firm culture, and so on.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learned to work with people who have different skillsets or levels of motivation. During the cases also learned a lot about different financing methods, basic accounting, multiple valuation, and commercial considerations when making a transaction. Very high level but I know a lot more than before for sure.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • We were given a lot of insight but it was division-specific so did not include anything other than IBD and sometimes how it ties in with other divisions. Roles available were communicated clearly as were the locations. Very big focus on how the regional offices are also cool places so that people explore something outside of London.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The GS employees were super kind. Analyst buddies were super busy though so imo not as great a resource as they could have been. Most of the fellow interns were super nice as well, however, some were not as engaged during the group project which left the work to fewer people.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Enjoyed it overall, however, felt very pressured and stressed during it. This was much better at other springs ngl. They condensed the schedule compared to last year and it was packed. Also, the fact that you spent two of the three nights of the program with case studies took the networking among the interns away as you were only working. I didn't 100% understand the rationale behind this.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Goldman Sachs Group
  • Be yourself and relax, it is not so serious, it is super early in your career.
