Overview
The week stood as an insight into overall global markets and how Goldman Sachs interacts with firms in markets. We spent time networking with employees in sales, trading, and structuring as well as understanding their roles within Equities and FICC. Day to day generally involved some kind of training, panel discussions, networking and working on pitches.
Skills
I learned so much more about how an investment bank operates within the financial world as well as developed my skills in networking, sales, trading, and logical thinking.
Business Insight
It was really exciting partly because of the people explaining their roles. Everyone at GS was exceptionally passionate about what they do and this really passes on when trying to learn from someone. Also, the training was exceptionally accommodating for people from all backgrounds.
Culture
It was of course an intense environment involving relatively long hours. However, it's an exciting culture, you're surrounded by some of the most charismatic and intelligent people which really drives a culture of wanting to learn more and succeed for each other. The atmosphere is friendly but it's undeniable that you need to be able to keep up with the pace.
Your Impressions
I had a fantastic time and was honestly so honoured to be given the opportunity. It only made me want to experience more of the firm.
Yes
Be passionate and be an all-rounder. The one thing that surprised me was how kind and accommodating everyone at GS was. They want driven, ambitious people who work well in teams.
