Overview
Everyone had to attend firm-wide and also divisional presentations on a range of topics starting from M and A case studies and ending with compliance and wellbeing sessions. Divisional side of the week also involved training in accounting. Also people were separated into groups to conduct presentations. There were also networking sessions for everyone to attend.
Skills
Yes. I have learnt basic accounting skills, Excel skills, and developed presentation and networking skills further.
Business Insight
It was quite easy to learn about them because everyone was ready to arrange a coffee chat to talk about what they do. I really liked that employees were honest about their roles and responsibilities.
Culture
The general atmosphere was challenging yet relaxed. It was clear that everyone is a dedicated hard worker that does not have too much spare time but everyone was very relaxed about this because they all know that they are interested in what they do. Despite a lot of working hours, employees arrange drinking events, international trips and networking sessions regularly. People get involved in charity and other initiatives through support networks.
Your Impressions
The work was very intense and took many hours, however we were working in teams with like-minded people so it was easy to push through. The company culture pleasantly surprised me - everyone was happy to help as much as they could and it wasn't competitive internally at all. The insight exceeded my expectations and I hope to convert this opportunity to a summer internship.
Yes
Be honest in the interview process but also read up on their culture and specific values. Prepare questions for all networking opportunities and try to reach out to employees from your university, background etc. working in GS because this insight is a good time and place to meet them and ask for help.
