Overview
We had talks from a range of speakers that included senior staff as well as representatives from the different diversity and inclusivity networks. We also completed a technical project that we worked on in groups over the four days which we presented to a panel of judges on the final day. In addition, we learnt about the different divisions within the engineering division and the kind of work each team does.
Skills
I developed my team working skills by completing the technical project. We also learnt how to network better and its importance. Since the insight week was only 4 days long, I learned how to maximise opportunities in a workplace and gain as much information in a short time. The length of time we had to do the technical project helped me develop my skills in working quickly and efficiently as well as my presentation skills.
Business Insight
They gave us the opportunity to speak with different members working on a range of teams that form part of the engineering division. We also learned about the non-engineering divisions and how every division has its role in producing the final outcome.
Culture
Everyone was friendly and happy to answer questions/have a discussion, including senior employees. Lots of current employees got involved in the spring week and we heard a wide range of positive experiences with the company. The dress code was casual and everyone was quite relaxed.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight week. It gave me a good understanding of the company and how they value their employees. They also made us feel valued and gave us key tips on how to succeed in the company. My interest in the company has increased during my time there. In addition, it was well organized with a good amount of enjoyable to informative events planned.
Yes
It is important to have a genuine interest in the company as well as the industry you plan on working in. I felt during my time that Goldman Sachs looks for future potential and active interest in Goldman Sachs specifically. I would advise anyone applying to look into companies values, projects and aims to see if you share the same ideas.
