Overview
Each day there were talks for various people within Fisher German. They included departmental talks with group tasks set at the end of the talk and wider talks about planning and surveying, the APC and career development. The tasks reflected real work within each department, and offered an opportunity to talk to others on the programme. We were also given the opportunity to talk to recent graduates within Fisher German about their experiences.
Skills
Yes, I learnt specific skills surrounding planning and surveying, and learnt what a career in this sector would be like, and the skills needed. More generally I gained confidence, communication and team-working skills.
Business Insight
The talks from speakers in different departments provided real insight into the business, and careers in this sector more generally. The case studies helped provide a real understanding of day-to-day work, something as a non-cognate planning or surveying student, I found really interesting.
Culture
The company seemed very inclusive and people orientated. They have a real focus on career development and getting the best out of their employees. I also got the impression the company provide and organise many opportunities outside of work like sports and social events.
Your Impressions
I loved the insight week. I found it incredibly insightful and engaging. It was great to chat to graduates about their experiences progressing into the industry, and to talk to my peers, in the same place I am. I think its fantastic Fisher German offer this opportunity to non-cognate students to provide insight into a sector with little information surrounding it and few opportunities for those not studying planning/surveying.
