Overview
The insight lasted 3 days and followed a similar structure each day. In the morning we were given talks by various senior professionals at the firm. Then in the afternoon we were given an overview of a specific sector (equity research, fixed income, or multi-assets). Following this interview we were then given a task within the sector and then do a presentation on our work - followed by a feedback session from current analysts.
Skills
I learnt much more about the various divisions within the firm, broadening my knowledge of the financial sector. The main skill I developed was the ability to give an engaging and successful presentation. This was cultivated by listening to talks about the topic and then practicing - by giving a presentation each day in the program.
Business Insight
It was incredibly useful being given an insight into each division and gaining an understanding of which roles I am suited for/find enjoyable. At the end of the program it was made very clear how we can continue to pursue a career at the firm as well as all of the roles available to us as future summer interns.
Culture
The employees were extremely keen to make the insight a helpful and enjoyable experience. Through networking sessions and the various talks it was clear that Fidelity has a friendly culture with a huge emphasis on fast learning and top performance.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the program and all of the events that were included. However, as it was conducted online I felt that it potentially lost some of the interactivity that an in person program would really help foster.
Yes
Make sure to understand the functions of the firm and ideally talk to a current employee about the strengths and weaknesses of the firm - as well as the culture there. Also make sure to have a strong CV that shows how you can provide value to the firm. The psychometric tests are also important - be honest and make sure to take the tests in a good headspace and a suitable environment.
