Overview
The summer internship consisted of an induction event, where I found out more about PWC- culture, values, people, ethics etc. This was followed by a placement in the business in the audit service line where I did some work auditing the financial statements - specifically a firm's profit and loss account and balance sheet. I was invited to meetings and social events also which were fun and well attended. There were lots of learning opportunities.
Skills
throughout my summer placement I learnt more on how business works, and about PWC as an organisation. This helped build my knowledge and research during the application process. The main skills I showed in the weeks were problem solving, communication, team work and others. It was great working with new people in the firm and also getting to know some of my other intern starters. All the people were friendly and made me feel very welcome
Responsibilities
I was allocated a lot of responsibility during my internship. I was given projects to work on by myself and I enjoyed the responsibility of doing this. I was given lots of support and the teams around me helped me with many questions and to understand what I was doing, why it was important etc. I was also working in team projects. the work I was doing was seemingly similar to what the graduate starters undertook.
Support & Guidance
I was given a lot of support and guidance during my internship. The work I was doing was very unfamiliar and although I understood the basics of audit before the internship from looking at the firms website, everything was explained and made sense before I started on a piece of work. This was helpful and I am happy on reflection with the amount of support I was given from the outset and trhoughout my internship
Culture
The culture and atmosphere in the firm was very good. I definitely felt part of the team and there was a positive atmosphere between the interns which I enjoyed and was a big plus - I made lots of new friends who I have kept in touch with after the internship ended. The firm was supportive and helped allay fears doing an internship during the pandemic. I think the firm is overall, really friendly and understanding
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the placement at PWC. The induction event made me feel at ease and I was given lots of help and guidance in my work and also with things like using my laptop, PWC Technology, audit software and generally when using the technical aspects needed for audit work. The people were really nice - my colleagues in the teams I worked in, and also between all the interns. I enjoyed the placement and would recommend it
Yes
I would happily give advice to others, and in doing so here can recommend applying to PWC to a friend (I have been doing this). I have told many friends about my placement and how much I enjoyed it. I would say to others to look at the PWC website and understand as much as possible about the company and the work that is done. I learnt a lot whilst doing the internship but it was helpful having some knowledge beforehand.
