    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • There were sessions that went through Amazon's interview process and its leadership principles. We had Amazon employees' Q&As. The best bit was the technical workshops we had in small groups with an Amazon SDE where we went through coding exercises similar to the ones that will be used in the technical interview for the internships. The event ended with a fun pop quiz that allowed me to learn more about Amazon's history.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my programming skills a lot in these 3 days, particularly in Python. This was done through the technical coding workshops where we were split up into smaller groups and we completed exercises that are similar to the ones that will be presented at a technical interview at an Amazon internship. I have also learnt how to talk through my logic when coding which is an important skill to have during the interview.

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was incredible to learn about Amazon and the potential roles available at Amazon. I was impressed by the diverse teams and the opportunities to change through your career. It was great to hear about how there are many groups that you join at Amazon for example the BAME group which does events for ethnic minorities or anyone who is interested. Amazon has many SDE groups that work on different applications including the AWS team.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and general atmosphere seemed to be very inclusive. There seemed to be many people from different backgrounds in the company. I love the fact that one of the employees mentioned how Amazon is a safe place where you can reach out to anyone in the company if you have a question or just want to learn something new. There are also opportunities to get involved in activities outside of your daily job.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I very much enjoyed the insight. Especially the fact that we had a hands-on experience with coding. The exercises were challenging enough that made them fun to do. I also enjoyed hearing from the current employees at Amazon, especially the graduates. It was great to hear the tips they give for us to be better prepared for the interviews. I love how there is a mentorship program for those who attended this program as well.

  • 7. Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon
  • I would tell them to get as much experience with coding as they could get, it doesn't matter which programming language. It is important to know about Amazon's leadership principles and what the company does. Amazon is a data-driven company so it's important to know about data structures if you are applying to be a software developer. Also during the technical interview be vocal and talk through your code, the logic matters.
