Amazon Discover: Spring Insight Participant Review

The event was three days long, each day was split into two parts, half was of a presentation/QnA session with a panel of people who work at amazon. The other half was a small group (6 people in my case) with a mentor going over coding tasks and providing valuable information of writing professional code as well as introducing new concepts I have not come across before.

My programming skills have improved a lot during this program, before I could solve a problem using my coding skills but during the program I learnt about making my code more readable, techniques to improve efficiency and ways of overcoming problems to name a few skills.

It was interesting to see the true depth of Amazon and how they catered for everyone's needs. The potential roles seem to be almost endless. I personally am interested in the software development route which is what the program is catered best for in my opinion

It was a very relaxed but professional atmosphere, I could easily asks questions where very helpful responses were provided. The company culture definitely seems very inclusive and they cater for peoples needs very well.

I personally enjoyed it a lot, I'm going to take a lot away from this event as I truly believe it has made me a better programmer. It is very helpful is seeing the transition from university/school work to actual professional work that I may be doing in the future.

Make sure to ask questions no matter if you feel they are just small, and try to talk to peers as it will make it a lot more enjoyable.
