    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • A meet and greet the first two days, and panelling with interviewers and job holders which was really cool then had a mentoring in the second half of the day and dived into coding programs. Day three we reversed this and had a coding challenge when split into groups which was really fun and then a pop quiz and more in-depth on how to apply for a job at Amazon which was really really cool.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I refreshed on Python and learned about star method which is cool. Did have 5 years of programming starting at age 15 at girls who code and only 3 of serious programming with a year gap in between. Defiantly helped my brain regroup and think like a software engineer. I am very passionate about a fun environment as work shouldn’t be driving the soul out of you. Learned a lot on interview performance and how to approach the Amazon application. So I loved it!

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • That you don’t need to know everything About programming just to have a desire to learn and not be discouraged. Maybe would go into consulting, or software but really want to do something very fun and less 9-5. Would love to be apart of a fun and passionate company like Amazon but I would also want to know what they actually do as I didn’t fully grasp this in the three day event sadly would definitely love a shadowing in future to really see the day to day.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very bubbly and customer orientated but remote working it seemed. Was a tad discouraged by this. Loved the enthusiasm was a pit draining at times become we could not see other participants and the employees were not as enthusiastic because it was online but they seemed really like they love their job which I like. Love a passionate community. The culture want really there I thought as I found it was a little dry at times.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • 9/10 would have loved to have a more experienced mentor with the program but it was fun! Recommend making in person in future. I like the mentoring a lot and the discussion with other students but wish we could do more networking and communication with students in the program. Would have been eye opening to meet other passionate ambitious students in future. Thanks so much and hopefully will be able to apply successfully to Amazon as I learned a tone.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon
  • Be open and honest and not be afraid to show off your accomplishments. I would not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and be ambitious. Be bold. Be brave. And keep applying yourself in everything. A jack of all traits is a master of none but a jack of all traits is nether than a master of one. Keep on moving and never give up on what you want as long as your happy!
