Overview
The insight is a 3 days event, which included intro to Amazon, insight to Amazon's culture, networking with the current employees, intro to the application process for summer internship, and the coding workshop with a mentor. For the workshop, I learned how to cope with Cloud 9, AWS, and Kata, and also further developed my coding skills. It was a small group workshop and the mentor was very helpful. Finally, there was a pop quiz, which I found very interesting and know Amazon better.
Skills
I learned how to coding in Java, and further develop my skills in coding in Python, and the importance of group work. During the discussion with my team members in the workshop, I knew how to write a neat and well-organised code, how to cope with different ideas from different team members during the teamwork. Additionally, I also learned that during the interview, saying my thoughts out loud to the interviewer is very important. And always ask questions about further conditions required to my interviewer during the coding interview.
Business Insight
This insight event let me confirm my future career path, which is I want to be a software engineering in the future. Everyday is a different day and I would be able to try different desks during the summer internship, which I really look forward to. I prefer to work in the desk of software development, which requires both technical skills and innovation. I am very interested in this role. So, my plan for the future career path would be join the summer internship at Amazon and then get a full time offer.
Culture
Everyone in this company is kind, lovely and helpful. Especially during the workshop, my mentor was very patient and helpful, and taught me a lot of things that I can't learn in my university. What's more, this company provides employees with mental health service and well-being service, which made me very impressed. So, it really gives thorough care to all the employees. This makes me more eager to join Amazon in the future.
Your Impressions
I mostly enjoy the workshop session, because I was able to get a close connection with one of the software engineers in the Amazon and learn the coding skills. I also made a lot of new friends during the workshop session. We discuss problems together and know each other better. People gather together with different background but with the same goal. It was a really precious and memorable experience. I would highly recommend people joining this event in the future.
Yes
Firstly, motivation to Amazon is very important. Your passion and motivation is very important during the interview. Secondly, be sufficient with coding skills and be well- organised during the interview. Always speak to your interviewer and ask questions. It is not important whether you can answer all of the questions. What is important is your logic and you thoughts towards the question. Finally, just be yourself and relax. Show your leadership and prepare some stories by using STAR rules.
