Overview
The insight program was an amazing opportunity to get to know the recruitment process at Amazon. We have attended workshops with the recruiters and had technical workshops with the mentors. We have covered some important topics such as interview questions where our mentor has enlightened us about the most commonly asked questions during the interview. Also, we talked about the leadership principles in Amazon and worked in groups. it was an enjoyable experience and I had made the most of it.
Skills
Yes, I have developed my coding skills a lot during this program. I was able to confidently solve problems and even work alone my partner left the session due to technical issues with her internet connection. I think I have developed my leadership skills as well as I was not scared to work alone on the tasks provided by my mentor. I think Java is the most commonly used language at Amazon and almost most of the Software Development Engineers at Amazon use Java on a daily basis. This program showed me how helpful Java is and I will master Java even more.
Business Insight
It was fantastic to understand the business and potential roles available at Amazon. Amazon is extremely diverse and they recruit so many people from various backgrounds both technical and non-technical. You have so many opportunities for career development at Amazon. I was excited to see how many people started as SDE and became a manager. However, Amazon's main focus is their customer they have 'Customer Obsession' as one of the core leadership principles and they strive to be the best employer on the planet.
Culture
Amazon's culture and the atmosphere were generally very welcoming, professional and warm. At Amazon, everyone is very smart, professional, ambitious and does their best work. Every day at Amazon is Day 1. What I most like about Amazon it is a very diverse organisation. Amazon really celebrates the differences in culture and strives to be the world's best employer. I think all the colleagues at Amazon are really friendly and love working and collaborating with one another.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed the coding sessions with my mentor and I loved working in a group. I enjoyed getting to know the recruiters and getting tips and hints on how to succeed during the application process for the SDE summer internship. It was an excellent experience for me as a First-Year student to get to know what it feels like to work in the industry. For me, this program was really a pleasant experience and I hope to join Amazon as the SDE summer intern next year.
Yes
I would like to advise those who are applying to Amazon in the future that it is always better to apply early. It is very important to be yourself and be confident. You should enjoy everything you do here and gain maximum from the coding sessions as they are very useful during the recruitment process. Make lots of connections with the people meet at Amazon and connect with them on Linkedin. It is one of the best experiences which you can get.
