The Role
The placement was a great experience. The people I got to work with was for me a the best part. Their helpfulness and knowledge helped me to progress through the year.
I never ever felt that I was a 'Placement Student'. I was welcomed and felt valued in every team.
If I needed help, all I had to was ask the question. At first I was apprehensive about asking questions, as I thought it may show incapabilities. However, I quickly found that it is imperative to ask as it is the only way to learn.
As with any job, some days are busier than others. It is very much dependent on the department you are in. If there is a lot going on within the dapartment, I found that I would be expected to manage more projects.
The level of responsibility that you are given is high. You are expected to be able to manage various projects to a high standard (with support of course!). I feel this is a huge advantage over other placements as you get to experience 'the real world of work'. Don't expect to be making the tea or photocopying!
Personally, the departments I worked in weren't 100% related to my chosen degree. Although this isn't ideal, I still feel that I have benefitted greatly from maybe working slightly out of my comfort zone. A commercial placement is good that is broad and covers a spectrum of business related areas. I have learnt many things that I know I can apply in the future. I would say it has influenced my future career path.
The Company
I was very lucky to have worked in departments where it was a great atmosphere. The people were nice and there was always time for a laugh (once the work is done of course!)
The HR team did a great job setting up the placement. The pre induction gave everyone on placement the opportunity to meet each other for the first time. It was a laid back day where you could have fun and get to know your future work friends. The induction week was also really good introduction to the company. It was very well organised.
The training you recieve is brilliant. It is run by a guy known as 'Sean the Legend' (he deserves this title). It is a great opportunity to have a more relaxed day out of your busy working schedule to focus on development and what you have learnt so far.

The Culture
I often found myself socialising with people from work, who I now consider my friends.
It's cheaper than London so it's good!
Not the greatest, but you can find some good places.
If you want to you can.
