Overview
There were talks about Company cultures, interview and assessment process and Q&A's with employees from various sectors. These were in depth and very helpful for future applications with the company. There were also small group software engineering tasks done alongside a Amazon Software Development Engineer to help understand what kind of problems may occur at Amazon and how to solve them. There were also various different panelists which we able to as questions to.
Skills
Skills such as software knowledge, team-work, communication skills, improved knowledge on innovative technologies, networking and an overall better knowledge in building software engineering are the main skills I have developed during my placement. These skills will stick by me through my 3 year degree course and any future jobs I have. I really learnt a lot and i appreciate all the hard working amazon employees who put in the time and effort to host the insight programme.
Business Insight
It was very intriguing understanding what different roles there were in Amazon, it seems like there is a place for everyone as they cater to many different specialties. The insight programme gave us an in depth tour of what a software engineer would experience on a daily basis and what they do if they experience an issues or problems. There were also panelists in different sectors who were happy to answer any questions regarding about what they did and how they felt about working at Amazon
Culture
Everything they say that is important to them on their website, I found to be true and if you are looking for a point of reference, I'd start there. The company culture would attract any employee as everyone loves to work together and help each other. Work here seems fun and not a boring thing you get up to each morning. They placed an emphasis on being always obsessed with the customer and always being curious.
Your Impressions
The Spring Insight Programme led by Amazon was extremely helpful and enjoyable. The employees are cheerful and always happy to answer any questions you have or help with any technical problems. The programme gave a clear insight on what it is like to work at Amazon and the steps into becoming an Amazonian. The workshops were challenging but also fun and nothing to stress about and the Q&A's gave me a clear understanding of the processes of amazon
Yes
If i were to offer advice to someone, i would say that you should look at Amazon leadership principles and base your interview answers and assessment answers to these principles, plus give examples where you have shown these in life. I would also say that your CV should llok presentable and not be too long. If you also have a coding interview, make sure you aks questions and talk through the problem as you write code
