    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The experience was very engaging, with talks about working at amazon, panels, as well as technical workshops in smaller groups. These workshops included coding exercises which we could work on individually, in pairs or as a group together. The insight also gave helpful advice for applying to internships, whether it be Amazon's own summer internships or just applying those skills to other applications. Each day was evenly split with talks about Amazon, the work life, affinity groups etc as well as coding, technical interview prep.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've developed my coding skills a lot. The more practice I get, the better. Having a group mentor for the technical workshops was very helpful as she was able to advise me and prompt me if I was stuck in my work or didn't understand a function or what to do. I've also started to learn that failure is okay after hearing a talk from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] I've always let failures put me down but after hearing how positive she is about failures, encourages me to carry on.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was intriguing to know there are so many roles out there, in Amazon alone, there are so many sub-companies and roles within them. In one of the talks it was mentioned that flexibility is a key aspect in any of the roles and it is good to know how Amazon takes care of their employees. Many of the employees have moved roles a lot as there are so many business and potential roles and so they can never be bored at Amazon and I find that very exciting to know.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Amazon is a very diverse company, there were employees of all ethnicities, and although this event was more targeted for females, there were still a good number of male employees who came to speak and mentor us. One of the panels was Amazon culture & affinity groups which displayed the wide range of diversity and cultural inclusion Amazon has. The general atmosphere was very empowering, especially women talk about their journies despite gender inequalities, Amazon has been a very friendly place for them and you could see it in their passion when they spoke

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed this insight, I was able to know about the different roles Amazon has to offer, as well as grow on my coding skills. I would have liked a more 'in the day of an Amazon employee' however, all the talks and panels explained how working at amazon is and it was nice to know about what amazon has to offer. I enjoyed the fact that there was a lot of help in terms of the application process and this will drive me to apply for next year

  • 7. Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon
  • The process was very easy, make sure your CV displays all of your talents and what you could learn more. After submitting your CV and application, if you are successful you'll receive an online assessment. I missed the initial deadline due to my university January exams, I emailed in after the deadline and they resent the assessment link which was very nice of them. The assessment also had a behavioural assessment and after submitting that I was selected.
