Overview
I gained knowledge and more understanding in terms of the technical and cultural aspects of working in Amazon. We were also divided into subgroups where we were introduced to our mentor. In which our mentor would walk us through mini challenges and computing concepts, as well as answer our questions regarding anything we were confused about. We also did pair and group works as we solve coding problems and questions together along with the mentor.
Skills
I have learned more about how to properly write better and readable code, as well has how to work with a team.
Business Insight
Pretty nice, I learned a lot about roles regarding software development. I learned mostly from the panelists during panel discussions about how they chose their roles as well as how they enjoyed it, as well as their experience regarding their certain roles. They talked about the ups and downs of their certain roles, how their everyday lives went, in order to help us decide on which role is most suitable for us when it comes to applications.
Culture
Everyone seems very friendly and welcoming. The panelists and the amazon team are very open to questions and are very welcoming and open minded in terms of answering questions brought out by participants. I also loved how there is no authoritative system but a system where people took care of and got along with each other no matter the position. The company's work life balance is also apparent to be very good, and all employees seem to be happy with their job.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight week. At first, I thought it would be not as engaging as an offline one since it was held online through conference meeting calls. However I learned from participating in the technology spring insight event that the panel discussions are super insightful, and i especially enjoyed the sub group activities as well as the code sessions and questions we did with our mentor. The final pop quiz was fun and I love getting to know everyone.
Yes
Pay attention to panel discussions and be active during subgroup sessions. Make sure to enjoy the process and get as much information as possible provided from the insight event, as I learned a lot from the knowledge provided by the current insight event. Make sure to participate in subgroup sessions with the mentor, as well as ask as many questions as possible, no matter how smart or 'dumb' you might think it is, every question counts.
