Overview
Presentations had to be done based upon the different sector of asset management that we were exposed to on that day. We also had to engage in talks with managing directors and other people who work for the firm. Breakout rooms were made where we were given the chance to network with other colleagues who were invited to take part in the spring week also.
Skills
Yes I have learnt how to efficiently research a bond and a share and how to present it in a manner that would be expected of an analyst. I’ve also learnt how to ask questions regarding a talk that I have received and making sure that it’s relevant to the topic being discussed
Business Insight
It was very insightful learning about the business and potential roles because first of all it gave me an insight into the day to day work that an analyst working in that firm would have to do and also it showed me the culture at that firm. Also it opened my eyes to other roles within an asset management firm that I was not aware of before the scheme.
Culture
The company culture was very good and the higher ups didn’t seem condescending at all and they were very eager to offer help. It was also a very good learning environment since everyone was willing to give a bit of advice when needed. They all seemed like very down to earth people that I would feel more than privileged to work with in the future.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the insight to a great extent as it was my first time attending such an event and I always felt like I could engage in what was going on. They never were just speaking at us because they allowed us to participate in activities with fellow people attending the spring week and this allowed me to understand how it would feel to work as part of a group on a project.
Yes
I would say make sure that you’re honest about your passion to get into the firm and also how willing you are to learn about the ins and outs of the company.
