Overview
We had various talks on cases done by HSF as well as practice area fairs and workshops that were very enjoyable. We also had an afternoon shadowing a trainee which was incredibly insightful and interesting.
Skills
I would say that my communication skills have undoubtedly developed just from talking to various trainees, associates, and partners, as well as the GR team. I also have developed my negotiating and mediation skills from the ADR workshop that was hosted which involved us negotiating as the defendant against the claimant side.
Business Insight
It was very interesting to learn how all of the aspects of the commercial world link together in these big deals/projects and how law also fits into all of this. I also liked seeing how the trainees fit into the workloads and how they affected each deal.
Culture
Everyone was extremely friendly and easy to talk to. It never felt like I was asking a stupid question and everyone was happy to help out. There also seemed to be a very collaborate environment and a distinct lack of competition between employees, which was great.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight and learning all I could about the Firm and it’s people. I have only attended one other insight day/workshop but this was significantly better and I enjoyed every single aspect.
Yes
Be yourself. This may sound like a typical answer but ultimately you want to show that you are the right candidate and so the commercial awareness needed and interest in the firm should come naturally and if it feels forced or artificial then it may not be the right firm for you, and that’s fine. But the firm are interested in you as an individual and therefore, if you are interested, so are they.
