Overview
This was a great insight scheme which was very interactive, with a key highlight being the trainee shadowing on the 2nd (last) day. On both days we had case studies which elaborated on a case the firm had played a key part in. We also had an interactive workshop surrounding ADR. On the evening of the first day we also had a social event which was at JunkYard Golf.
Skills
I developed key skills in the ADR workshop - this included negotiations and how to evaluate our current position and what would be the worst-case scenario.
Business Insight
The trainee shadowing was the best experience I have had so far in terms of understanding the role of a trainee. The shadowing lasted just over 3 hours and was more of a 3-hour chat in my trainee's office, rather than watching a trainee do their work (This is definitely the best way for it to be done). However, some people only watched their trainee do work, which a few found not as insightful.
Culture
The culture of the company was very inclusive, as aforementioned my trainee was super honest and really nice. There was no D&I talk, however, that did not alter anything. We also got to walk around the office during lunchtime (Taken around by a trainee) allowing us to witness the open door policy of the firm.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed this insight scheme due to how interactive it was in comparison to some other schemes where you just sit in a room and have people talk to you for 3 days.
Yes
Have an interesting topic (not just saying you like private equity) for the questions "Explain a topic you are interested in" mention the firm's focus on litigation if this interests you (this was a key part of the firm's focus and it was clear they value it just as much as corporate)
