Overview
Everyday is different and can be very reactive. As the L&D undergraduate, I was the first point of contact for any enquiries into the inbox, these could include enquires about Induction, Mandated eLearning, Development Planning Support, our own internal L&D offering and many other bespoke requests. I've worked closely with suppliers for a number of different things: LMS, LinkedIn Learning, Internal course offerings. Projects: Development Planning, Learning at Work Week, Induction, Mandated eLearning, Undergraduate Familiarisation, HR update sessions
Skills
there are a number of new skills that I have learnt. I feel better able to speak up and voice my opinions when project planning and reviewing current ways of working. This is due to the culture of Integrity embedded throughout the organisation. My ability to be organised has greatly improved. With a much more hands-off management style I had to ensure that my days were planned and that I was able to handle my BAU tasks as well as those that weren't planned simultaneously. This also meant that I was better able to communicate the work I had completed.
Responsibilities
Yes. I really felt that I was left to my own devices throughout my year, in a positive way. Work would be delegated to me and I would be trusted to see that work through to the end with little observation. However, I always knew that the support was there if needed. Some of my responsibilties included: First point of contact for all enquiries Managing our LMS and regularly communicating with the supplier when issues arise Reporting on our Induction completions, ensuring all employees completed there Induction on time Assisting the Compliance team to roll out and report on our Mandated eLearning
Support & Guidance
Support was always there when I needed it, not just from my direct team but also from the wider HR department, as well as across the business. Regular meetings, and being able to work in an office space around others really helped to emphasise the resources I had around me. I had an intesne 4 week handover period with the Undergraduate I took over. this enabled me to continue the work they were doing whilst having them watch over and support me when I was new to the business - I felt confident enough after these 4 weeks that I could carry on the job, knowing I still had the teams support when needed.
Culture
The environment of the office was one which was open and enthusiastic. Everyone seemed happy to be there and also happy to lend a helping hand if needed. VWFS embeds Integrity throughout everything that they do, so you never feel afraid to speak up for what you believe in or challenge others, its encouraged. Throughout my time, I was able to attend a Gala Dinner for Willen Hospice, VWFS' main charity, as well as attend a variety of social events with the HR team.
Your Impressions
I found the work fulfilling, challenging and enjoyable. I never had experience working in a corporate organisation, or in a HR Team, and my main goal was to understand whether this is something I wanted to do long term, and it definitely is. My expectations were greatly exceeded, I thought I would be the typical intern - making coffees and doing the mundane admin tasks. This was never the case. I felt and worked like a normal member of staff, as if I had been there for years. This helped me to settle in really quickly and I wish I was staying after my 12 month placement
Yes
VWFS' values, and the VW Group Essentials are linked to everything they do. Do the research and discover where you fit in with these. Its important that you embody them as much as the organisation.
